Shinodayama maneuvering range

Shinodayama Kyuryo Hill used to be in the precinct of Hijiri shrine until the Edo period and became a state land in 1870.There had been set a cannon shooting gallery of the Osaka Garrison in 1872.Cannons made in the arsenal in Osaka had been test-fired. Around 1887, the whole neighborhood of Shinodayama had played a role of a practice ground for the old Japanese Imperial Army as the place for military drill.

After the world war being under U.S. occupation, but returned to Japan in 1957. This practice ground except the north residential area has been taken over as the maneuvering ground of Self-Defense Forces. This is a precious sightseeing spot with lots of nature because of its not having been installed a large-scale development.
